The impacts of Intel’s plan to build a $20 billion semiconductor plant in Licking County are already materializing, as properties in the nearby area are “selling at a rapid rate,” Columbus Business First reports. Newark-based Southgate Corporation president Robert O’Neill said “housing, infrastructure and auxiliary business growth” will be the main areas affected by Intel, according to the article. O’Neill “said any place within a 30-minute radius of the plant is likely to feel its impact,” with a need for more housing as well as services, warehouse and industrial space, restaurants and smaller offices. Central Ohio leaders are responding to the expected impacts; the City of Columbus “is considering another affordable housing bond, while Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission leaders say Central Ohio will need to continue to focus on improving transit and the area’s main thoroughfares to accommodate new residents lured by Intel.” For more, read the full article (subscription may be required).
