A New Jersey man recently pleaded guilty to making campaign contributions on behalf of a foreign national. “Federal law prohibits foreign nationals from making contributions to federal candidates or fundraising committees,” according to the Department of Justice’s press release. However, before the 2012 presidential election, Bilal Shehu knowingly and willingly received $80,000 from overseas and then made multiple donations to political campaigns. He also attempted to bring a foreign national to a fundraising party to meet a presidential candidate, but was unsuccessful.
