What Can a Public Owner Include in its Contract Documents to Protect Itself (Valley View)

Public owners spend millions of dollars each year to build libraries, hospitals, school buildings, city halls, police stations, firehouses, etc. Often a project experiences problems during construction or public owners discover problems – such as exterior wall water infiltration, roof leaks, and even rotting windows – after construction. When these problems arise it is too late for an owner to learn that it does not have the provisions within its contract documents to protect itself.

This program will explore the most important provisions of construction contracts and explain how they should be used to protect a public owner. We will provide real life examples of problems that arise on construction projects and how public owners have addressed them using the tools available to them in the contract documents.
