Karen M. Moore elected President of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel

Columbus, Ohio …Karen M. Moore, a partner of Bricker & Eckler LLP, has been elected President of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). The ACTEC Board of Regents elected Moore at its annual meeting last week. 

ACTEC is comprised of more than 2,400 lawyers who are elected to membership by their peers. Candidates are evaluated based upon their professional reputation, experience and abilities in the areas of trusts and estates, and their substantial contributions to the profession through lectures, writings, teaching, and bar activities. Members of ACTEC work together to improve and reform probate, trust, and tax laws and procedures, to foster professional responsibility, and to cooperate with bar associations and other organizations with similar purposes. Moore is a Regent and Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and previously served as the Ohio State Chair of ACTEC. 

The first President from Ohio, Moore will oversee the move of ACTEC’s headquarters from Los Angeles to Washington DC.

Moore handles all aspects of estate planning and administration, including the drafting of wills and trusts with related estate, gift and generation skipping tax planning, charitable planning, and other planning associated with wealth transfers. In addition, she counsels numerous fiduciaries and estate and trust beneficiaries in resolving disputes before litigation arises and serves as counsel in fiduciary litigation matters in court.

Moore is listed in the independent publication The Best Lawyers in America in the trusts and estates area and was named by Ohio Super Lawyers as one of the top 100 attorneys in Ohio.. Moore is Immediate Past Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section Council. In addition, Moore is a member of the American Bar Association and its Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law section and the Columbus Bar Association and its Taxation, Estate and Gift Tax, and Probate Court committees. She is a member of the board of editors and a frequent contributor to the Ohio Probate Law Journal. She served as one of the members of the Joint Committee that drafted the Ohio Trust Code, which became effective in Ohio on January 1, 2007 and has served as an Adjunct Professor in estate planning at The Ohio State University College of Law.

Active in her community, Moore serves as the board secretary and a trustee of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and co-chairs The Columbus Foundation’s Professional Advisory Council.

Moore earned her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Ohio University and her law degree summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Board of Editors for the Ohio State Law Journal
