Natalie Furniss named Young Alumnus of the Year

Columbus, Ohio … Natalie Furniss, a partner of Bricker & Eckler LLP, received The Young Alumnus of the Year Award from Capital University Law School.

This annual award recognizes a graduate from the law school who was born on or after July 1, 1973, who has achieved outstanding accomplishments in his or her legal occupation and has made noteworthy contributions to the legal profession and community. A ceremony was held at the Law Alumni Association’s Ninth Annual Alumni Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 11 at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square. Over 300 alumni and friends of the Law School attended the event.

Furniss graduated with her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1999, then graduated summa cum laude from Capital University Law School in 2002. She was on the Order of the Curia, Order of the Barrister, publishing editor and staff member of the Capital University Law Review, teaching assistant to Professor Christopher McNeil, research assistant to Professor Max Kravitz and member of the Capital University Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Mock Trial Team, with two consecutive regional championship titles.

As a partner in Bricker’s litigation group, Furniss’s national litigation practice includes insurance and financial product litigation for several large national insurance and financial product companies. Additionally, she handles other business litigation matters and has recently represented clients in lawsuits relating to business tort claims, product liability claims, disputes relating to partnership agreements, asset purchase agreements and real estate development disputes. Additionally, Furniss serves as chair of the firm’s recruiting committee and co-chair in the insurance industry litigation group.

A good steward of her profession and community, Furniss’s contributions are many. She is on the Board of Directors of the Lancaster Festival, member of the Columbus Bar Association Bar Admissions Committee, and volunteer for various community arts, cultural and charitable organizations. In the past, she has served on the Democratic Judicial Screening Committee of Franklin County, been on the Board of Directors of Scouts Ohio Heartland Council and is a past member and on the Board of Trustees of BalletMet Columbus and United Way of Fairfield County.

Furniss is also quite active in a variety of bar activities. She serves as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) Life Insurance Committee and has been selected for membership in the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). She is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellowship Class of 2007, Research Institute (DRI), American Health Lawyers Association and state and local bar associations.

Other awards and recognitions include being named Ohio Rising Star from Ohio Super Lawyers in 2007 and from 2011-2013 as well as being elected to the American Bar Association, TIPS Leadership Academy from 2010-2011.
